Windfall Sausage Pie
The other week I came home to find a bag of apples on our doorstep with a little post-it note saying “watch out for the maggot” written on it.

Sausage and Apple Pie
I wasn’t brave enough to play maggot roulette by eating the apples on their own so I decided to chop them all up and stew them down so that I could do a bug check along the way. I love stewed apple on its own, but I remembered that my mum used to make sausage and apple plait so I thought I’d give it a go. This recipe is the latest in my monthly series for Rangemaster, so if you like the look of this rough and ready piece of pie then please do go and read the full recipe there.
NOTE: The recipe needs 1 pack of 6 sausages (not 6 packs of sausages!)
Serve 4
- 225g plain flour
- 175g butter (which has been in the freezer)
- Pinch of salt
- 7 apples ( or about 350g) – I used eating ones – possibly Cox’s – that fell from next door.
- 6 sausages
- 2 tsp dried sage
- Cold water
- Beaten egg or milk for glazing

Lots of meat and a layer of apple
Yum, a perfect Autumn treat!
