Winter Desserts Petit Fours and Christmas Chocolate 8 Gift Box

It’s coming round to that time of year when you may find yourself on various visits to friends and families, searching for a secret santa idea or trying desperately to think of a present which can be posted. Whilst it would be great to be able to make gifts all the time, sometimes it’s just not going to happen. Which is where these come in – Hotel Chocolat’s little Christmas boxes. They’re more interesting than your average truffle if you want something to take to your hosts.

The Winter Desserts Petit Fours (£6.50) contains four (but of course) chocolates – Caramel Pecan Pie, Christmas Mess, Chocolate Souffle, Apple Strudel. Apple Strudel  was easily my favourite. It had a really appley centre, coated with a mix of white and milk chocolate and a little bit of crunch on the top. I’d have a second of those.   If I had to change anything I’d say that the Caramel Pecan Pie could have been more nutty as I only got a tiny bit of nut (but then I do LOVE pecan nuts). The little box is  sweet and I like the dessert theme – it would be great if you’d had a big posh meal together and had no room for dessert, just a little something. Also, I think  it’s a good idea that there’s a plain chocolate one in there for the less adventurous.

Christmas Mess, House Praline, Gingerbread Truffle and more

I was also sent the Christmas Chocolate 8 Gift Box  (£8) This consists of Christmas Mess (as above), House Praline, Milk Chocolate Truffle and Gingerbread Truffle. Again, a nice mix of interesting and classic and with two of each, meaning that Mr B and I have been enjoying matching each other’s testing efforts. I really liked the Gingerbread truffle. I would say it was more ginger than gingerbread, but it tasted very good either way. The chocolates look appealing, with  some festive colouring and  little meringue and berry pieces sprinkled on the Christmas Mess. Penny-counting-wise, this box is better value for money than the dessert ones (though a bit less fun maybe?). It would fit through the letterbox too.

So, there you have it. Some rather tasty and good looking goodies. Now, which one shall I have next?

For the purposes of full disclosure, I should note that this was a freebie in return for a review. Are you jealous? Smirk.
