Happy Norway Day – 99p Fish and Chips
Happy Norway Day (for 17th May)!
I’m not Norwegian and until last week was unaware that the 17th May 2014 is the bicentennial anniversary of the Norwegian constitution. However, I am apparently fickle enough that since learning that the Norwegian Seafood Council (NSC) will be celebrating by funding 99p Fish & Chip meals at 99 chippies around the country I have been much much more interested in this most auspicious of days.
I can only imagine what 16 tonnes of cod looks like (or how many potatoes you need to accompany it), but that’s what the NSC has given to the chippes. The lovely thing about this big, tasty, PR stunt is that you can eat it with a clear conscience. Norwegian cod is a carefully managed, sustainable product and from personal experience I can vouch for its quality of taste and texture.
So, if you want a cheap Chish and Fip supper (That’ll confuse google, but it’s a family phrase that I can’t seem to shake off) head to www.seafoodfromnorway.co.uk/99p to find out where your nearest cheap-as-chips-chippie is.
I’m learning more and more about this country’s food at the moment and I’m increasingly fascinated by their tourism, fish farming and culinary heritage so expect to read more soon….
